The one-on-one meeting helped me to narrow down some of the options I had for my primary source. I realized that some of the sources would have been difficult to acquire (cooking show DVD). Also, I simply lost interest in a few of the options (smoking advertisments & play:stl poster). I have now narrowed down the options to the Anthropologie catalogs and John Williams soundtracks.
Here are some of the notes I took for the catalog "audition":
Anthropologie -
• Old fashion – modernized Victorian clothing
• Suggesting a return to the ideal female image?
• Girls/Women – should dress more feminine; frilly clothing
• One catalogue features no more than two models – telling a story
• Also sells furniture, accessories, shoes, etc. – sells a lifestyle
• Prices – for the affluent
• Backgrounds/settings are old fashion – historic locations
• How do the backgrounds and era appeal to customers?
• Reminiscent of many different countries – hence the store’s name?
• Lack of advertisements (TV, magazines) – level of sophistication?
As for the soundtracks, I will try to get their hard copies by Wednesday.
